Facts

  • The Mapes was Reno's premier hotel-casino and Nevada's tallest building when built.
  • After closing December 17, 1982, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
  • Despite a protracted battle by preservationists, it was demolished by the City of Reno in January of 2000 - the first building on the National Trust for Historic Preservation's "11 Most Endangered List" to be lost.
