Facts

  • Home to the National Danish State Library.
  • This building is used as a book storage tower and it contains 2 million Danish and 3 million international books.
  • You'll get some of the best possible views of Århus from the top of the tower because of its high location in the landscape.
  • The Dansih Air Force had a small control post at the top for many years.
  • According to personnel at the library, it will run out of space in 2004 or 2005.
  • Statsbibliotekets bogtårn is a part of the University of Aarhus with more than 20,000 students.
  • Most floors are closed to the public and the books have to be booked through a computer system.
  • Here you'll find a copy of every single printed publication ever made in Denmark, some from as far back as the 1760s.
  • There were, for many years rumours, that the building had as many floors under ground as above.
  • Built in reinforced concrete, strong enough to survive a bomb attack. This also explains the lack of windows.
