The construction of the church begun in 1932, but construction was put on hold when Soviet Union invaded Lithuania. At the time, building was almost completed and had full height.
In 1952, building was given to Banga radio plant. It made a workshop into the 30 meters high central nave.
Tallest church in Kaunas and since it is built on Zaliakalnis hill, it
can be seen from many parts of the city.
In 1988, building was given back to the catholic church.
Construction carried on, but was suspened several times because of lack of
money. The church was finally consecrated in 2004 and construction works finished in 2005.
