Facts

  • A Feng Shui consultant was employed to design the interior of the building.
  • In order to get the building approved, the developer Urban Construct was forced to lower the height of the building to the actual 18 levels/ 50m.
  • A second proposal for a 21 level/ 60m hotel were submitted again for approval, and whilst this proposal was given the green light by the Adelaide City Council, the state government's Development Assessment Commission vetoed the council's decision and rejected the development for the same reasons.
  • This original proposal was rejected by the Adelaide City Council, because it exceeded the strict height to plot ratio regulations.
  • The original proposal for this building was for a 21 level, 69m hotel, which was to feature a restaurant on the 20th floor.
  • To maximise the floor-to-ceiling height an innovative approach, using two way post tensioned flat plate floor slabs was utilized.
  • The simple structure frame optimised the construction cycle between successive floors and enabled items with long procurement times, such as the polished precast panels, to be installed outside the critical path activities.
  • The Horizon was awarded a commendation from the Royal Australian Institute of Architects in the commercial category for 2004.
  • This development was awarded the 2005 Home Industry Association award for best apartment project.
  • Level 3 of the building features resort style facilities including a lap-pool, plunge-pool, spa, sauna and gymnasium.
