Facts

  • Money for this project ran out after the base had been completed, so it was demolished.
  • The tower was originally designed to overshadow the Tour Eiffel; the height only reached 47 metres (155 feet). What little that was built was demolished after a decade.
  • Had the project gone according to plan and had been seen through to completion in a timely fashion, it would have been the world's tallest structure until the completion of the Empire State Building.
