  • The steeple reached a height of 206 feet, making this church the third-tallest building in Hyde Park before it was shortened.
  • With its steeple First Unitarian Church was the tallest building in Hyde Park west of the train tracks, surpassing its neighbor Rockefeller Memorial Chapel by 2 meters.
  • The church is the first in the city with a crypt for urns containing the ashes of cremated bodies. The burial chamber is located under the floor of the nave.
  • This was the last major church in Chicago to be built with a masonry-supported structure.
  • Originally designed without a spire. The steeple was included at the insistence of the pastor, Rev. Von Ogden Vogt but was demolished in April 2003 because of structural problems.
