This is of the few custom-built courthouses in Australia, and has 19 Magistrates Courtrooms including one specially designed Murri (Indigenous) Court.
Innovative features include, rainwater tanks that hold 46,000 litres of water for landscaping, and motion sensors that reduce lighting and airconditioning in unoccupied rooms.
The courthouse provides improved support for victims and their families, assisting vulnerable witnesses through video links that enable evidence to be presented from remote locations and from protected areas within the building.
Other facilities include magistrates chambers, court administration accommodation, and day detention and prisoner transfer areas.
Built with a four-star energy rating.
One concrete pour for the foundations required the contents of 70 concrete trucks (seven tonnes each) being lined up in convoy fashion, over a full work day.
The audio-visual system was installed by VideoPro Brisbane at a cost of reportedly $250,000,000 AUD.
