Facts

  • The old Library and the new Library buildings connect underground and are separated at grade by the Eastman Reading Garden.
  • The Stokes Wing replaced the library's Business and Science Annex, an amalgamation of three separate, early 20th-century buildings behind a single facade, originally the offices of The Cleveland Plain Dealer.
  • To integrate with and pay homage to its neighbor the landmark Main Library Building, the wing was designed to appear as though the new, modern library had emerged from a classic style building, leaving only stone columns at each of the four corners as remnants.
