  • In 2007, St. Pancras Station was remodelled at a cost of £800 million to transform it into one of Europe's largest rail termini; the Channel Tunnnel Rail Link provides non-stop services to Paris in around 135 minutes via the channel tunnel at speeds of up to 302 kilometres per hour (186 miles per hour).
  • The interior retains much of the original decoration which includes ornamental ceilings, mosaics and stencilling.
  • Residential accommodation is divided thus: 21 one-bedroom apartments, 44 two-bedroom apartments and 3 three-bedroom apartments all of which are housed in the building's cavernous roof space.
  • The building's Renaissance Marriott hotel houses 244 rooms.
  • The Midland Grand Hotel had 500 rooms at opening.
  • The design of the building was chosen as the result of a competition to build an extravagant terminus hotel by the then Midland Railway Company.
  • The Midland Grand Hotel coupled with the station was regarded at the time as one of the great engineering feats of the world.
  • Remodelling was carried out by developer Manhattan Loft Corporation to the designs of Renton Howard Wood Levin LLP with Arup as structural engineer.
  • At its peak, the hotel was one of London's most grandiose and luxurious.
  • The building ceased to be a hotel in 1935 and was turned into railway offices whereupon it ceased to be called the Midland Grand Hotel and became St. Pancras Chambers.
  • The station roof measures 100 feet high to the point of the arch, 689 feet long and 240 feet wide. When built it was the largest unsupported roof in the world.
  • St. Pancras Station, which connects into the rear of St. Pancras Chambers, is recognized as the greatest example of Victorian monumental Gothic architecture in the country.
  • On 14 November 2007, St. Pancras Station reopened for business as the Eurostar Terminal and boasted the longest champagne bar in Europe.
  • The railway station was designed by the engineer W H Barlow.
  • Both St. Pancras Chambers and St. Pancras Station are Grade I Listed.
  • In the 1980s the building had its fire certificate revoked, was closed down and vacated.
  • Sir John Betjeman is honoured with the installation of a statue to his memory in the Eurostar departure area. It depicts him looking up at the cavernous rail shed which he was instrumental in saving from demolition in the 1960s.
