Facts

  • This building has both state and federal historic landmark status.
  • Known as "Kansas City's Hotel of Presidents," every president from Woodrow Wilson through Richard Nixon stayed in the Presidential Suite – with heaviest activity occurring during Independence, Missouri, native Harry Truman's administration between 1945-1953.
  • When the Marriott Corporation assumed control of the original Muehlebach in 1996, it spent two years restoring it in accordance with guidelines for historic structures.
  • The registration desk used now is in the new structure at the Wyandotte Street entrance. The original Muehlebach Hotel registration desk, complete with old school mail boxes, sit-down phone booths, and period lamps, was restored to meet historic preservation standards.
