Facts

  • The largest water tower in Europe. It holds two water reservoirs of 2.300 cubic meters each.
  • On January 10, 2005 the reconstruction of Europe's tallest water tower into a 4-star hotel started.
  • Prior to its conversion into a hotel in 2005-6, the tower had not been used since 1961 except for musical performances.
  • The tower is a landmark in the heart of the city, in close vicinity to the TV tower and overseeing a large and frequented park.
  • In 1990 it was sold to Ernest-Joachim Storr, an architect from Munich, who repeatedly announced its conversion into either a hotel or a cinema.
