  • The opera house was commissioned to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the French Revolution of July 14th 1789 and as a consequence was sited at the Bastille where the Revolution was instigated.
  • Along with the main auditorium, the structure contains a few smaller auditoriums. It has an all-purpose hall that seats 600 to 1,300, an amphitheatre that seats 500, and a studio that seats 280.
  • The main auditorium of the opera only takes up about 4% of the total space of the structure, yet seats 2,723, which is rather large by opera standards.
