Facts

  • The Downtown East station of Metro Transit's Hiawatha Light Rail line is located just to the northwest of the Metrodome. Minneapolis-based Hammel, Green & Abrahamson, Inc. designed the station.
  • This is the home stadium of Major League Baseball's Minnesota Twins. During Spring Training, they play at Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers.
  • The roof consists of two layers of fabric reinforced by 166 tons of 3.375 inch diameter steel strand.
  • The Metrodome may lose its three major tenants by 2010, with pending proposals for the construction of three new stadiums in the metro area.
  • The University of Minnesota intends to build the new on-campus TCF Bank Stadium and the Minnesota Twins and Hennepin County plan to build a new Target Field in the Warehouse District.
  • Beginning in 2004, the Minnesota Vikings considered an offer from Anoka County to build a new Vikings Stadium in the city of Blaine, but started looking at other sites in 2006, including one near the Metrodome. Anoka County rescinded its offer on November 20, 2006.
