Facts

  • Uniland's plans have been delayed by lack of support from state lawmakers.
  • As of summer 2006, the buildng was slated for a $50 million renovation to include 8 floors of apartments, with retail space at ground level and offices on the 2nd floor.
  • Portions of the building date from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
  • AM&A's was once the flagship store of one of Buffalo's leading merchants.
  • It consists of a 310,000 square foot main building on Main Street, with a taller, 115,000 square foot warehouse behind.
  • Currently vacant, many in Buffalo blame the decline of it and other retail businesses along Main Street on the streetcar line. The rails runs down the middle of the street, replacing vehicular traffic and disrupting traditional patterns of activity.
  • As of summmer 2004, Uniland Development Company had proposed to replace it with an eight-story, 229,000-square-foot office building (377 Main Street ).
