Facts

  • The Sanborn Fire Insurance Map indicates a main roof height (excluding the penthouse) of 125' (38 m).
  • Mayer's dreams failed. The Chamber of Commerce reneged, and the Erie Trust Building (Renaissance Center) of 1925 firmly established Tenth and State as the commercial center.
  • Builder Henry Mayer hoped to make Twelfth and State Streets center of Erie's commercial activity.
  • The building deteriorated with increasing vacancies after World War II. It was demolished after acquisition by the Redevelopment Authority and futile attempts to attract investors.
  • The Chamber of Commerce was invited to move here, with the building to be named in its honor.
