  • The column is an octagonal shaft faced with Texas Cordova shellstone, topped with a 34-foot Lone Star - the symbol of Texas.

  • The star at the top of the column underwent some renovations in 1992.
  • The second tallest monument in the United States; the tallest is the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Missouri.
