Facts

  • Ca. 1525 - Construction comes to a standstill.
  • Ca. 1410 - Triangle on the west facade.
  • Dating from the mid-13th to the early 16th centuries, the Cathedral of Saint Peter ranks as one of southern Germany's most outstanding Gothic churches.
  • 1618 - Vaults of the three western bays closed.
  • 1250 - Approximate date of start of construction. City fires in 1152 and either 1273 or 1276 caused great damage, the latter leaving only the "Eselsturm" or "Donkey Tower" at the north transept intact.
  • 1383 - Work begun on the north tower and the central portal wall.
  • 1859-1869 - West towers completed.
  • 778 - Church first named.
  • Reconstruction begun in the mid-1270's with the south side-aisles, followed by the choir under Master Ludwig.
  • 1341 - The south tower begun under Heinrich der Zehenter.
