Facts

  • This earthquake-resistant building was built with a suspension system of construction patented by the architects. It involved suspending the floors by steel straps from two concrete service cores. After the towers were in place, the floors were constructed from the top down.
  • Shortly after construction was completed, the development went into foreclosure. It sat empty for ten years while the legal battle played out in the courts. It finally opened in 1982 as Mountain Bay Plaza.
