Facts

  • When it opened in 1985, St. Louis Centre was the largest urban mall in the country which included 120 retail stores, 20 restaurants in the food court, and anchored by Famous-Barr and Dillard's department stores.
  • The former May Company, which was headquartered in St. Louis, planned to develop the mall in the 1970s as the May Mall, but they handed over development to the Simon Group.
  • The mall was initially successful but struggled in the mid-1990s. It was officially closed in 2006.
  • Multi-story skyways originally connected the mall to the Stix, Baer & Fuller Dry Goods Company Building to the north and the Railway Exchange Building to the south. The skyways were removed after the mall closed.
