The Hotel Charles was demolished in the late 1980s.
Located adjacent to the railroad station, there was a hotel on this site from 1849. Numerous expansions and additions changed the building's form until 1928.
It ended its existence in the hands of the Springfield Development Authority. Managing this property cost the SRA $100,000 in fiscal 1988-89. It burned mysteriously while negotiations were underway with preferred developers.
