Facts

  • The Hotel Charles was demolished in the late 1980's.
  • Located adjacent to the railroad station, there was a hotel on this site from 1849. Numerous expansions and additions changed the building's form until 1928.
  • It ended its existence in the hands of the Springfield Development Authority. Managing this property cost the SRA $100,000 in fiscal 1988-89. It burned mysteriously while negotiations were underway with preferred developers.
