  • Rajabai clocktower rises above the Bombay University library, which contains some exquisite stained glass, recently restored to its former glory.
  • Originally the clock could chime 16 different tunes, including "God save the King" and "Rule Brittania".
  • It is possible to climb the clocktower by means of a spiral staircase, however access is currently restricted.
  • Built from local Kurla stone, the clocktower design is based on Venetian and Gothic revival styles.
  • Premchand Roychand, who was a wealthy Bombay stockbroker, commissioned the Rajabai tower in honour of his mother "Rajabai".
  • The cost of construction was 200,000 Rupees in the 1870's.
  • Designed by the English architect Sir Gilbert Scott, the clocktower was inspired by "Big Ben" in London.
