  • The building was subjected to a car-explosion terrorist attack on the evening of October 7th, 2004, causing the collapse of parts of its western wing.
  • The hotel is situated on the northern Red Sea beaches of the Sinai Peninsula, in close proximity to the Israeli border, a short walking distance away.
  • Developed and built by Israelis, the hotel was opened in 1982 as the Ramada Hotel. It was the last piece of land to be returned to Egypt in March 1989 in accordance with the peace treaty signed years earlier.
  • Bought in the late 1980s by the Israeli government for US$41 million to be handed over to the Egyptians for free in 1989.
