Facts

  • Travertine is used as the cladding for the 14 base columns as well as for the walls and floors of the ground floor lobby/elevator core and the below-grade concourse.
  • Designed by famous architect and engineer team of Bruce Graham and Fazlur Khan. Both were responsible for designing the Hancock and Willis Towers in Chicago, Ill.
  • The undulation and thickening of columns at the lower floors expresses the greater loads carried at these levels.
  • The shaft is capped by a tall mechanical floor, articulated by thin, closely spaced columns at the exterior.
  • There is no main column at any corner of the building, creating an illusion of beams and glass panels wrapping around the corner when seen from an angle.
