Facts

  • The building was closed in the 1980s and has remained vacant for decades. It was donated in 2001 to Shreveport-Bossier Community Renewal.
  • Plans were announced in 2006 to transform the Petroleum Tower into the National Center for Community Renewal. This $62 million project would have enlarged the building and substantially changed its design.
  • It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.
  • New plans were announced in 2014 to convert the tower into 130 apartments with retail space on the ground floor.
