Facts

  • Has hosted several famous people, including: Shirley Temple, Louis Armstrong, President Dwight D. Eisenhower, and President Lyndon B. Johnson.
  • When built in 1928, a city ordinance was passed stating that no other structure could be built taller than the Marcus Whitman Hotel. This ordinance has been maintained over 70 years.
  • From the mid-1970's until the late-1990's, the hotel was used for subsistence housing until local businessmen converted it back its original glamor days, with dark wood paneling in the ornate lobby and hand-crafted furntiure in the spacious rooms.
