Facts

  • Together with the adjoining Johnson Wax Administration Building of 1936-39, this is considered one of Wright's greatest designs.
  • The S.C. Johnson Research Tower is one of only two completed skyscrapers designed entirely by Frank Lloyd Wright, along with the Price Tower Arts Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
  • In 1974 this building became the fifth recipient of the American Institute of Architects' prestigious Twenty-Five Year Award.
  • It was named a National Historic Landmark in 1976.
  • The S.C. Johnson Research Tower was Wright's first cantilevered high-rise structure. The design used principles of design and construction that he initially conceived in the 1920s.
