Facts

  • Headquarters for Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing, more popularly known as 3M, inventors of Scotch Tape and Post-It Notes.
  • The building sits on the north side of Interstate 94, just east of the St. Paul city limits. It is the first high-rise building of the Twin Cities metropolitan area when approaching from the east.
  • The building underwent a complete facade restoration in 2004-2005. The stone spandrel panels and windows were replaced with a new glass curtain wall.
  • In addition, a new exterior lighting scheme will be implemented at the top of the building, similar to that employed at Target Plaza South in Minneapolis, a technology pioneered by 3M.
  • The 3M Center was the first high-rise building in the Twin Cities suburbs.
