Facts

  • Construction of Cherokee Towers, a 23-story apartment building, was halted on April 8, 1975 when National Building Corp. lost its construction financing.
  • Dobson & Johnson, a mortgage banker in Nashville, had agreed to loan $4.7 million for the development. The financing was pulled when the builder fell behind schedule and the cost of the building rose above estimates.
  • The unfinished tower, which was halted at the 6th level, was sold in 1978 to Roger Davis and H.G. Whittenberg Jr., who planned to finish it as a condominium tower.
