  • The building is on a steep slope, with only 8 floors above ground at the rear along North 3rd Avenue West.
  • The name Missabe is a variant of Mesabi or Mesaba, the large Iron Range Mining District to the north of Duluth, near the city of Virginia.
  • The first four floors were completed in 1904, with five additional floors added on top in 1914.
  • Originally named the Wolvin Building for its developer, A.B. Wolvin, an early Duluth shipping magnate.
  • The former Wolvin Office Building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a contributing member of the Duluth Commercial Historic District.
  • It is directly connected to the Board of Trade Building by a skywalk bridging 3rd Avenue West.
