Facts

  • The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
  • First Presbyterian, with its light Jersey brick, white wood trim, and unusually small brick quions, is considered one of the most pleasing Georgian Colonial churches in New Jersey.
  • The tall narrow spire, crowning a centrally placed tower, was rebuilt in 1902 after having been blown down in a tornado in 1899. It was destroyed again in 1946 by a devastating fire. The church was rebuilt after the 1946 fire without the steeple.
  • The steeple was restored in 2008.
