Facts

  • The building's original gold colored - and highly reflective - glass was a problem for drivers around downtown who were blinded by the sun's reflection. In 1993 it was announced that the glass would be changed to the current dark blue color.
  • The renovation was performed by Starnet International Corporation, a firm which specializes in construction of pyramids, domes, and special facade structures.
  • The top floor is occupied by the Headliner's Club which is a private lunch and dinner club.
  • The building originally had a gold glass facade and a flat roof. In a 1994 renovation the glass was changed to blue and a covered space frame was added to the top, raising the height from 315 feet to 325 feet.
  • This was the 2nd building in Austin to exceed the Texas State Capitol height. After completion it became the tallest office building in Austin from 1974 until 1975 when the Bank of America Center was completed.
  • Typical floorplates for this building are 16,000 square feet.
  • The Bank One sign atop the building was the highest in the city until 2004 when the Frost Bank Tower was completed.
