Facts

  • The store became part of the nationwide Macy's chain in September 2006.
  • The building and the adjoining original Dayton's Department Store are connected by skyway to the US Bancorp Center, Highland Bank Court / Residence Inn by Marriott, PwC Plaza, City Center, and the IDS Center.
  • The Dayton's name, in use since 1902, was retired and replaced with the Marshall Field's name in summer 2001.
  • Only 12 floors are visible from Nicollet Mall. The remaining floors can be seen looking north along LaSalle Avenue.
  • This is the tallest building completed in Minneapolis during the 1940s.
  • The Marshall Field's name was sold to May Department Stores of St. Louis in June 2004. This will be the first time since being founded as Dayton's that the store's holding company will not be based in Minneapolis.
