The Arkansas State Capitol is a scaled-down version of the National Capitol in Washington. It sits on a knoll, overlooking the downtown to the east and the Arkansas river to the north.
Long wings extend north and south from a classical portico which is extended across the whole facade. The composition is dominated by a tall dome surrounded with Ionic columns topped by a minaret. The whole is of gray limestone which appears almost white.
The interior spaces are organized around a marble rotunda.
The Arkansas State Capitol was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
