Facts

  • In 1967 Worthen Bank announced it would build an 18-story building. But after Union National Bank announced plans for a 21-story building, bank officials held secret meetings to discuss making theirs the tallest in the state.
  • The bank waited until the last piece of structural steel was added to the One Union National Plaza, and then announced they would construct a 24-story building.
  • It held the title to tallest building in the city until 1975 when the Regions Center was completed.
