  • The complex began as the Flamingo Capri in 1972, which was an old motel Ralph Engelstad purchased in 1971 transforming it into a hotel and casino.
  • In 1974, the east and north buildings were opened, as was the Shangri-La pool.
  • On November 1, 1979, the casino was opened as the Imperial Palace, an East Asian, Oriental-themed gaming resort and hotel.
  • A 850-room, 19-story tower was added to the complex in 1981, as well as the Imperial Palace's Auto Collections, located on the fifth floor of the hotel's self-parking garage.
  • A major expansion from August 1987 to July 1989 added a 547-room, 19-story tower, which brought the room count to 2,637. The expansion also included a new swimming pool, a two-story waterfall, heated spa and poolside bar, a nightclub, race & sports book, health and fitness center and office complex.
  • Harrah's Entertainment assumed ownership of the hotel casino on December 23, 2005.
  • In March 1993, an independent 24-hour medical facility opened serving guests and employees.
  • In 1986, Tower IV of the hotel complex was completed bringing the room count to 2,100 rooms, 15,000 square feet was added to the casino, and the meeting and convention space was expanded.
  • An addition was added to the hotel, completed in August 1982, that brought the hotel's room count to 1,500.
  • The 850-seat Imperial Theatre showroom was completed and opened in June 1980.
