  • The building has a module design consisting of five steel modules prefabricated in the UK and shipped to Hong Kong. In total 30,000 tonnes of steel and 4,500 tonnes of aluminum were used.
  • Costs to build this very distinctive high-rise building exceeded US $670 million.
  • To illuminate HSBC, the project incorporates 716 intelligent lights including 450 Colour changing fluorescent fixtures in the glass stairwells as well as Martin Exterior 600's and 200 fixtures on five levels, 8 Search lights and over one kilometre of LED lighting around the top of the building.
  • The building is one of the most famous to have been designed by Foster + Partners who also designed 8 Canada Square, HSBC's world headquarters in London.
  • On completion, Hongkong & Shanghai Bank was the world's most expensive skyscraper and today, that title has yet to be surpassed in Hong Kong.
  • This building replaced the old Hong Kong & Shanghai Bank.
  • The atrium is 52 meters tall.
  • Hongkong & Shanghai Bank is one of the world's most famous skyscrapers.
  • A ten-story atrium rises over the public plaza.
  • From concept to completion took 6 years (1979-1985).
  • The design of the building was guided by Feng Shui.
  • In Hong Kong, the building is simply known as 'The Bank'.
  • Launched in January 2004, the HSBC illumination is part of the Victoria Harbour Lighting Plan - a permanent lighting and special effects son et lumiere consisting of the illumination of 18 of Hong Kong’s most prominent buildings.
  • Exterior trusses are expressed in the form of giant steel 'coathangers'.
