  • Tallest building in South America when constructed.
  • The apartments in the southern section of the building are arranged around an open light court. The entrance to this section is a large vaulted gallery.
  • The tower at the northwest corner of the structure dominates the skyline of Downtown Montevideo, and stands at the gateway to Avenida 18 de Julio, the city's principal street.
  • A massive stone arcade runs along the side of the building facing Plaza Independencia.
  • The Palacio Salvo has a sister building up the River Plate in Buenos Aires, the Palacio Barolo, also designed by Mario Palanti.
