Facts

  • The building is built around an enormous full-height atrium with a grand staircase and terrace opposite the entrance.
  • An entrance to the Metro Center subway station is set into the building's northwest corner.
  • In front of the staircase is a sculpture "Spirit of American Youth" by Donald Harcourt DeLue. The artwork is one in a series of 12 originals commemorating the battle of Omaha Beach.
  • The lower 4 stories were completed in 1914. In 1990 the original 12-story design was finally realized.
  • The building was home to the famous Galt Brothers Jewelers from 1934 to 1988. The business was once owned by Woodrow Wilson's wife.
