  • The statehouse rotunda measures 120 feet from the floor to the skylight, which is 62 feet in width.
  • The Judiciary Annex, now the Ohio Senate Office Building, was constructed from 1889 to 1891 to house Ohio Supreme Court and other state offices that outgrew their space in the statehouse. After renovation, the annex was reopened as the Senate Building in March of 1993.
  • The original plan was for the rotunda / cupola to support a much larger dome but plans were discarded.
  • The Ohio Statehouse cornerstone was laid on July 4, 1839.
  • It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972 and named a National Historic Landmark in 1977.
  • The building was opened to the public and legislators in 1857, but was not fully completed until 1861.
  • The statehouse underwent an extensive renovation that started in 1989 and was fully completed in 1996.
  • The rotunda floor sits 17 feet above the ground level, which is also called the plaza level.
