Facts

  • The building was named after Richard H. Fyfe, a Detroit merchant who made his fortune in the shoe trade.
  • At the time of its opening, this was the largest shoe store in the world, using 10 of the building's 14 floor exclusively as retail space.
  • By the late 1960s, the retail floors had been reduced to one. The building was converted to apartments shortly after R.H. Fyfe Company entered bankruptcy inSeptember 1971.
