  • The Drake has consistently been rated as one of the best hotels in the United States, appearing in several Top 10 lists.
  • The hotel has hosted many heads of state including Winston Churchill, Herbert Hoover, Jawaharlal Nehru, Queen Elizabeth & Prince Philip, Shah Reza Pahlavi, Georges Pompidou, Emperor Hirohito, Anwar Al-Sadat, Yitzhak Rabin, King Aziz, Oscar Arias, Helmut Kohl, Margaret Thatcher, and Bill Clinton.
  • Famous actors who have stayed here include Bing Crosby, Katharine Hepburn, Lionel Barrymore, Groucho Marx, Agnes Moorehead, Lucille Ball, Anthony Quinn, Charlton Heston, Bob Hope, Sammy Davis Jr., Sophia Loren, Dustin Hoffman, Bill Cosby, Jack Nicholson, and Steve Martin.
  • The H-shaped plan with terraces at the 4th floor level was a slight alteration from an earlier U-shaped hotel proposal on this site, designed by Holabird & Roche.
  • The Drake brothers, who developed this hotel, had earlier developed The Blackstone. In contrast to the old hotel's name, they named the development firm the "Whitestone Hotel Company".
  • The Drake Hotel stands at the gateway to downtown Chicago, at the head of Michigan Avenue appearing directly ahead of southbound motorists on Lake Shore Drive.
  • The hotel's architect, Benjamin Howard Marshall, died here on 19 June 1945.
  • Famous aviator and astronaut guests include Amelia Earhart, James McDivitt, John Young, Gus Grissom, Buzz Aldrin, and Chuck Yeager.
  • Other famous guests of the hotel include Walt Disney, Salvador Dalí, Spiro Agnew, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, Nancy Reagan, Dan Quayle, and Al Gore.
  • All of the hotel's most important public spaces - the lobby, ballrooms, meeting rooms, restaurants, and lounges - are located on the second and third floors. The ground floor is a gallery of small shops.
  • Musician guests have included George Gershwin, Lily Pons, Georg Solti, Kiri Te Kanawa, Aretha Franklin, and Joan Sutherland.
