Facts

  • One of the tallest courtyard buildings in Chicago, the Vista Homes is a cooperative apartment building overlooking Jackson Park near the entrance to the Midway Plaisance.
  • The lobby occupies an H-shaped structure inside the courtyard, forming 2 small patios at the sides.
  • Original plans called for a high ornamental gable at the head of the courtyard, on top of the building. This would have brought the building's height up to 203'-9" (62.1 meters).
  • The space just south of the building is a private vegetable and flower garden for building residents.
  • The site of the garden to the south was originally intended for a large athletic club.
  • A major hotel was proposed for this site in the early 1920s.
