Facts

  • Oldest highrise building in Chicago north of the central area; the Hampton House on the south side was built in the same year, and besides these the only older highrise beyond the central city is the old Sears Merchandise Tower on the west side.
  • The residential hotel originally contained 388 suites, 163 of which were in the 1919 addition.
  • The original building was completed in 1916; due to its success, a matching addition was constructed in 1919.
