Facts

  • This unusual skyscraper prison has extremely narrow windows and a sharp triangular shape. It is often compared to old computer cards that used punched slots.
  • The prison's triangular shape minimizes the length of corridors to be patrolled.
  • The exercise yard is located on the roof, and is hemmed in by a 9m (30-foot) concrete wall with fenced openings.
  • The triangle's hypotenuse is on the northeast side, facing a trapezoidal plaza.
  • The building adjoins a parking garage at its south end, the Metropolitan Correctional Center Parking Garage, which is also designed in the brutalist style with projecting concrete supports.
