  • At one time this was reputed to house more Nobel Prize winners than any other building in the world, including 1976 literature laureate Saul Bellow.
  • The tower is in the shape of a cross, with each branch cantilevered over the base.
  • The architects (Bruce Graham & Robert Diamant of SOM) and construction company were presented the 1968 Honor Award by the American Institute of Architects' Chicago Chapter and the Chicago Association of Commerce and Industry.
  • The entrance lobby consists of a very small passage bisecting the base.
  • The building has only two apartments per floor, and each one has exposures in three directions.
  • The tower is affectionately known by locals as "Steinhenge".
