Facts

  • Designed by Adrian D. Smith, FAIA, RIBA Design Partner at Skidmore Owings & Merrill LLP.
  • In 1993 this building won the Best Structure Award from the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois.
  • At the main entrance by the southeast corner there is a hollowed-out rotunda, similar to the giant rotunda in Adrian Smith's Rowes Wharf complex in Boston.
  • An open arcade extends the length of the Monroe Street side, sheltering pedestrians between Canal and Clinton Streets.
  • Like many other office buildings by architect Adrian Smith of SOM, this building has a streamlined profile and a sumptuously decorated lobby.
  • Along the south side of the lobby there is a series of fountains in a long pool in front of a wall of translucent stone panels.
  • This is the tallest building in Chicago west of the Chicago River.
  • The turret at the southeast corner is the building's highest point, and is outlined in white lights at night.
