Facts

  • In 2001 the building underwent an $11 million renovation. The facade was cleaned, internal systems were upgraded, and the cornice was rebuilt after being stripped many years ago.
  • The building is named after Lawrence Heyworth, son-in-law of the developer, who supervised its construction.
  • Recommended for landmark status on 3 Aug 2000 by the Chicago Landmarks Commission. Landmark status was granted later.
  • Developer Otto Young was a wholesale jeweler and, like many of its neighbors on Wabash Avenue, the building originally housed jewelers and watchmakers.
