Facts

  • A preliminary design called for 7 narrow archways spanning the first 2 floors on Wabash Avenue.
  • The building's plan is L-shaped, with a wing extending east along the side of the Auditorium Building.
  • A fourteen-story addition was planned to the east in the middle of the block, which would have turned the L-shaped plan into a U-shape with a courtyard open to the north.
  • The structure was cantilevered over the Auditorium Building's spread foundations to avoid disturbing them.
  • Although the building is separate from the Auditorium structure, its lower floor levels were set to match those of its neighbor, and the weathering concrete façade was selected to harmonize with the older building's colors.
  • Used as a dormitory for Roosevelt University, which is located next door in the Auditorium Building.
