Facts

  • One of architect Helmut Jahn's first major projects. He originally wanted the color to be deep blue, but it was changed to white in the final design.
  • Originally planned as twin towers. The second tower would have been west of this one, at Clark and Monroe Streets.
  • The original lobby featured a strong black and white design, with diagonal bands in the floor. The space was redesigned in a traditionalist style in 2001-2002.
  • Windows to the right of the curve (the north facade) are much higher than those on the left side because they receive much less sunlight.
