Facts

  • The top of the building is capped with a very high communications antenna.
  • Original plans called for a far more elaborate neo-Gothic design, with heavy ornament at the top and along the tops of the two arms flanking the light court.
  • This is the tallest building in Chicago with continuous brick cladding. (1000 Lake Shore Plaza is taller but uses brick infill between concrete framing elements.).
  • Overlooks the Chicago Federal Center to the east. The building is directly across the street from Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's one-story post office.
